Figured I may as well throw this one out there as I know there are a few
collectors who read the group! I'll be down in Bloomington in a few days
and for once will have some free space in the vehicle - just wondering if
anyone knows of any vintage equipment[1] at any surplus stores, goodwill
etc. or otherwise up for grabs in or around the area?

It's a complete technology wasteland up where I live, but normally when
I'm close to civilization I've got a vehicle that's packed full of stuff.

[1] but no x86 PCs unless they're an IBM 5150 or 5160, and no Apples
unless they're a Plus or earlier! :-) Anything else pretty much fair game.

("de-mooing" my email address should reach me via email, incidentally)

cheers

I'm kinda sorta in the same boat myself. Looking for an RS/6000/AIX box.

I've got a Sinclair ZX81 and you can have it when they pry my cold
dead fingers off it.

:-) Something of a rarity on this side of the Atlantic, I suppose! I had
a handful of them once upon a time (three runners and two that were just
good for parts, if I remember right), but gave them all away - I wish I'd
kept one now, as it's not like they take up a lot of space!

I do still have a ZX80 (which also has the ZX81 upgrade ROM/overlay kit),
plus a 48k Spectrum, which are both in overseas storage right now (and
possibly a Spectrum +2, but I think I may have given that one away as
well) - they're PAL machines rather than NTSC though, so interfacing them
to a US display is going to be a bit of a challenge.

cheers

Try MPC, formerly (IIRC) known as Materials Processing Corp.
Haven't been over there for awhile. This is where all those
recycled electronics left off at Best Buy go, as well as many
corporate recycles. The store used to stock cables, memory,
piles of mice & keyboards, monitors, parts of many colors..

And occasionally, fully working computers.

Man, I still miss Dexis. Could always find something rare and good
at that place, but had to make sure you did not pay too much for your
treasure...

I started a pen-top collection years ago, and most of the machines are
sitting idle in my basement. Doesn't sound like this is what you're
after, but I've got old Newtons, a GO prototype, old Windows mobiles,
Palm pdas, and several other obscure rigs that just need some TLC that
I can't give them.

Oh, also an old IBM PS2, circa 1995.

Send me an email if you're interested.

Also, my Forte Agent trial period has expired, and I'm looking for
another free newsreader.

Hmm, well it'll be Blaine this weekend, just in case anyone knows of
anything up that way (I did get a neat ol' Epson QX-10 a little farther
north of there on the last trip). After that I think I'll be into
camping territory whenever I'm heading down that way, so won't have space
to haul things home...

(I never did get to MPC as Levi suggested - hopefully on another trip one
day!)

cheers

Jules-- I have a Atari 1040STfm in original packaging and in like new condition. Interested? I have the external SF354 disk drive, the mouse and all cables as well.
