Sigh. Bought a box of chocolate frosted cake donuts from the Cub
Sunday night. The frosting started decomposing back into corn syrup
and chocolate syrup the next day, and by this morning we have brown
lumps swimming in a brown lake.

Even the eldest kid asked if it was even safe to eat today, it isn't
like her to turn up her nose at a donut.

I miss Rainbow bakery.

Does such a thing even exist? A chocolate-frosted cake donut where the
frosting actually holds together and doesn't turn into a drippy liquid? I
haven't looked very hard, but they all seem to do that.

Fans of the old Rainbow might have better luck if they try Larpenteur location. I use the Larpenteur Cub, and have found that like many aspects, the baking operations are apparently being done by the same subcontractors as back when it was Rainbow.

In general, that supermarket is so unchanged from its Rainbow days the Larpenteur location might be referred to as the "Roseville Crainbow". That would distinguish it from the more literal "Roseville Cub" located at Har Mar Mall.

(In my opinion, the bakery at Har Mar leaves a lot to be desired when compared with the Larpenteur location.)

I miss the Roundy's meat selection. I used to get beef tenderloin for $10/lb. Sure it was 'select' instead of Cub's 'choice', but they're asking $25/lb, which is the same price as Whole Foods. I need a new butcher.

The price of beef and pork is skyrocketing because supplies are at a
60-plus year low. The drought is behind the beef shortage; a
contagious disease is killing off piglets. It is probably going to be
a couple of years at least before supplies recover.
