Over the last few weeks I've been getting a call, Robo call, from an
outfit called card services with the caller ID number of 866-518-0213.
It's always a recording, never an actual person, instructing me to
call this toll-free number regarding possible fraud on my visa card. I
called the number back and was instructed to push number one, which I
did, I was then instructed to enter in my 10 digit phone number, and
then the 16 digit Visa card number. That immediately sent a red flag
up as I have several Visa cards and this Robo caller did not identify
which card. At least once a day I get a call from these people asking
me to call their toll-free number and go through the same rigmarole.
Today it was a little different, they actually identified my issuing
bank, my name on the card, and the last four digits of the card
number. Being as I have received calls like this in the past
regarding suspicious activity and they have proven legitimate I
thought this one might be also. But considering the red flags from
the previous calls from this number and my inherently suspicious
nature I did not return our call, instead I called my bank. They
explain they use a service similar to this for security purposes but
they knew nothing about this one. At least by the name card services.
I don't know, maybe it's their service using their trade name or
whatever. Normally when I received calls like this I just add them to
my Qwest blocked list. I've been reluctant to do it in this case
because of the possibility this might be a legitimate service. Has
anyone ever encountered this situation before with these people?
