Post by Lutsen Lumberjack.... But at least they didn't get their sorry asses blown away by a tornado, like down in Arkansas!
Speaking of which, May 6th will be the 49th anniversary of the 1965
Twin Cities tornado outbreak. Anybody who lived here back then will
remember it. It was a very scary night.
Wikipedia's entry on it is here:

Video of the tornado damage in Fridley is here:
And best of all, audio recordings of WCCO's coverage of the storms
that night can be listened to here:

Early on in the outbreak, the storms took out the area's NWS radar,
leaving the Twin Cities effectively weather-blind during the worst of
the storms. WCCO promptly moved their weather crew into the AM
station's studios and opened the phones to their listeners, asking
people to call in with reports. It was the first time they'd opened
the phone for weather reports from listeners, and it enabled them to
track and report the tornadoes in the metro area. It's nearly as
frightening listening to the broadcast now as it was when it happened
in real time.
