While picking up a few things on the way to work today through the Cub
foods near my house on the way to work, the rotting meat smell wafting
out of the meat department was really gut wrenching.

I haven't smelled that bad of rotting meat in some time, especially on
that scale.

The brownish/greenish chucks of "meat" in the manager's special case
front and center were revolting. I can't imagine the number of
shoppers that like getting "cheap" meat that would actually consider
buying anything from there.

At least when it was Rainbow, even though they took away the meat
case, didn't have that level of disgust.

Come on HyVee, you can't come in quick enough for me.

I've generally never had a problem with Cub; I've always thoght they were
pretty good. Although, last week, I pulled one of their "3-lb chubs" of
ground beef out of my freezer, and discovered that the plastic packaging
had ballooned up. I cut it open, and that awful smell came wafting out.
But that's the only bad meat experience I can remember at Cub.

I once unwittingly bought a can of bamboo shoots that was two years past
it's expiration date at the Rainbow at the Quarry. I think Cub has
improved the place. But you're right... more grocery competition is
better.

I recently hit the former Rainbow/now Cub on Larpenteur. It used to be
one of the higher-end Rainbows with high-quality meats, produce, and
its own on-site bakery. Locals were worried that it be turned into
just another Cub, carrying lower-quality products. Unfortunately, they
were right.

Agreed. I make a point of stopping at the one in Winona whenever I'm
down there. Can't wait for them to open their new Oakdale store next
month.

This region is being made to regret casting out Chairman Bob.

Absolutely love my recent visit to HyVee in Oakdale. I will be going
back as I can. On that note, I have Family Fresh Market in the town i
live in, and frequently go there. Can't remember the last time i went
to Cub Foods.

I have just about decided that Roseville Walmart is unusable as a grocery
store. There are just too many empty shelves. I dislike Cub, a lot, but
you see about 98% less empty shelves at Cub. And since Walmart has less
variety to begin with, there is often no alternative product you can
substitute with.

Also they fiddle with their product line, find a nice product and a few
weeks later they have dropped it. Just recently they dropped some nice
frozen pesto sauce and _Thompson_ cherry preserves. It isn't as though I
found these things at Biyearly's and expected Walmart to carry them - I
*found* them at Walmart. Also _Michele's Butter Pecan syrup.

And the produce department makes me think I have wandered into a Russian
"Supermarket".

Ironically, Cub intends to open a new, bigger store in the former
Kmart space across the street from the new Hy-Vee in Oakdale. They're
dreaming. The reason everyone's so thrilled about the new Hy-Vee is
that they finally have a place selling quality meats and produce. .
.unlike Cub.

Cub sure is stepping up the advertising lately..

My local HyVee (New Hope) is pretty full up whenever I go there now.
I do like the meat section quite a bit better. I won't have to go to
Byerly's to buy meat any more.
And with a real seafood counter, I'll have to start cooking more fish.
I'd look at what Cub had and pass right on by that area..
